A Hope Beyond Hope

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.” Titus 2:13-15

I remember when I was a child, I would look up at the sky and imagine being pulled up into the heavens. I would imagine God calling me into the open clouds and it appeared as though the clouds were calling to me. I have always been amazed by sunsets and clouds, and I will argue with anyone that Arizona has the most beautiful sunsets. I see the sunsets as God’s painting and the sky as His canvas. I see the brush strokes of the rays of the sun as they are painted on the background of the sky. I am still amazed by sunsets and clouds and it seems no two sunsets are alike. I love Arizona and our sunsets, and I am always amazed by God’s handiwork.

The sunset reminds me of the hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior who will one day split the sky. Our God will command the blowing of the trumpet, and on that sound we will be called up to Him. The sky and clouds remind me that I have hope beyond this present world, and I have a hope that is eternal - a hope that is not predicated on my favorite sports team or a hope based on man. I have a hope that reminds me that I need not have my focus on that which will soon fade away, but my focus should be solely on my God. We often get overwhelmed with the things of this world, and we often get detracted by this world. We are quick to lose our focus, and we are prone to leave the God we love.

I am grateful for a God who gave Himself for me to separate me from this world and give me real hope - a hope not found in things but a hope found in Him. I am grateful for a God who justified me and a God who has called me to be separate from this world - a God who desires for me to be sanctified unto His image. I have been called to follow Him and my desire is to share this great hope with others.

To what and to whom are you looking towards today? Are you focused on the things this world has to offer or are you focused on His glorious appearing? Are you grateful to God who gave Himself for you that you might be redeemed and justified? Are you living unto the good works He has called you to, or are you living for the emptiness of self?  May our focus be on God and nothing else, and may we ever be watching and listening for His coming again. There is no hope without God, but there is great hope in Him. May our hope be rooted in Him alone and may we be a peculiar people He has called us to be.
