Bring Your Umbrella!
“By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” Hebrews 11:7
I have heard of a prayer meeting that was called where people were praying for rain. A lot of people showed up to the prayer meeting but only two people brought an umbrella. It is one thing to pray for something and quite another to pray with faith and be moved with action expecting an answer to your prayer.
I think of Noah and how people mocked and ridiculed him for building something that seemed odd to them. Noah was not building for no reason, but he was acting by faith on what he was told by God to do. He was building a large structure out of wood preparing for something that, before that time, had never happened. Arizonans understand the foreign concept of rain as we don't get much of it in the desert. It does rain occasionally but not as much as it does in Seattle or in other areas of the world.
I think of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the warnings He gives about hell. Hell has been used as a curse word and even taken lightly and joked about. Some think it will be a big party and others look forward to going there. Jesus warned of hell more then He spoke of heaven. It may seem foreign to some, but it is a literal place. Some ignore the salvation of the Lord and they choose to bring damnation unto themselves and ignore the warning of a terrible place called hell.
Noah prepared for the rain by building an ark as God had commanded Him to do. I am sure Noah had doubts and questions, but he was persistent in his faith. He continued to obey and warn others but no one seemed to listen or care what he had to say. Noah’s obedience led to the saving of his family while those who chose not to believe paid the ultimate price.
What about you friend? Will you be moved with fear to obey God or will you pay the ultimate price? God is always speaking, but are you listening? Will you obey Him today or will you be like those who waited too long? The rain will soon come, so will you be left out in the rain or be safe in the shelter of the Almighty? May we move at the warning of God, and may we find safety in Him. The door to salvation is always open but you must enter in before it is too late. What will you choose today? May we not be simply stirred, but we may act on what God has commanded us to do. John 3:3 states, "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
