“So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” Hebrews 9:28
Rebekah and I started dating again in 1998 after a seven-year hiatus. We started with writing to each other and it soon ended up into something more. Rebekah lived in Arizona, and I was living in Illinois at the time. We would write letters before there was text messaging, and we would call each other quite often. In those days there was no cell phones, and you were lucky to get a deal on long distance calls that would cost 10 cents per minute. I hardly cared about how much my phone bill was because it was worth every penny to talk to my love.
Rebekah decided she was going to come and see me in Chicago and the date she was scheduled to arrive was 05/20/1998. She got her plane ticket in March and the two months seemed so far away from when she first told me she was coming. I counted down the days and they could not seem to pass by fast enough. Finally, the day came and I was so excited to see her as I neared the airport. I waited anxiously at the gate to see her and there she was and it seemed like she was floating on air. My heart pounded and my stomach tingled with excitement. We were reunited and the long awaited date finally came to fruition.
I think of how I will react to the sound of His second coming. Will I be excited to see His face or will I be ashamed at my actions? Will I be more excited than I was on 5/20/1998 or will I be embarrassed that I was not ready? He is coming again for His saints and for those who have their faith and trust in Him. He has paid the price and is coming to redeem His children. I sleep facing the east in the hope He will call me out of my sleep and my face will be facing His. I long to hear the trumpet, and I want to live in a way in which I am not ashamed to see His face.
Are you ready for His coming? Do you realize He is coming again? Is your life pleasing to the Master? Do you dread His coming or are you as excited as a young man waiting to be reunited with the earthly love of his life? When He comes again, there will be no excuses and there will be no do-overs. We must be ready at all times as no man knows the day or the hour when the trumpet will blow. Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ? How about you Christian? Do you walk with Him or do you foolishly tried to hide your sins from the One who knows all? May we live our lives in a way that we will not be ashamed or surprised to see Him, and may we pray, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”
Stay in the fight!
