Consider The Source
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” I John 4:1
In this time, we are bombarded with all kinds of news information and misinformation. We can Google any subject and find a myriad of answers to our questions, both true and false. We can input our medical symptoms and have a prognosis range from "walk it off" to we have six months to live. We have access to Twitter, newspapers from all over the world and the ever-controversial Facebook. We get news from every source and even from some disgruntled friends and family members.
I try to limit what I read and listen to as there is so much information and it is hard to know what is truth. Rebekah and I take walks in the evenings to discuss the topics of the day and we try to decipher what is true or not. It seems everyone has an angle or motive that is beyond the pure motive of the truth. Sir Winston Churchill once said, “Never let a good crisis go to waste.” It seems many use a crisis to gain an advantage and it is hard to know whom and what to trust. I have learned to be careful to what I hear and read, and I have come to know that God is the only One who can be trusted.
Satan is constantly at work and looks to deceive the world in many ways. He uses religion to lead others astray and likes to mix in a little truth with his destructive lies. He whispers these lies in our ears to advance his own agenda, and He loves to question God. Genesis 3:1 states, “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” He makes it seems as if God has made a mistake or maybe we do not truly understand His clear commandment. Satan did not need Twitter to feed Eve his lie, but he will use every tool in his belt to get your eyes off of the truth.
Are you one to believe everything you hear? Is what you believe grounded in God’s truth or are you swayed by the news of the day? Are you reading your Bible so you know what is truth? Is what you are reading leading you to truth or is it written by false prophets? Do you follow man or are you following God? May we not be swayed by every article we read, but may we be changed by the truth of God’s Word. What will you allow to change you today? Will you follow every teaching or will you follow, “The way, the truth, and the life”?
Stay in the fight!
