Faint Not!

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (do not lose heart).” Galatians 6:9

My previous pastor gave me a Scofield study Bible with the words written in the cover, “God only knows how much I love you.” He closed out that statement by including his life verse, Galatians 6:9. In moments of discouragement, I would reference that verse and look at what he wrote to me and be encouraged to keep pressing on.

I recently ran into this pastor at my cousin’s funeral, and he looked exactly the same as he did when I last saw him nearly eleven years ago. He was still faithfully preaching God’s Word and he gave a clear gospel message at the service. He preached about the hope we have in Jesus Christ and the condemnation that is sure to come if we do not accept the free gift God offers. He shared his own salvation story with the audience, and I could recite it as clearly as he could as I have heard it many times before. He has not lost his gratefulness for his salvation, and he is still unashamed in sharing that with others. I remember many times that I have seen him in action as he handed someone a gospel tract or even whipped his car around to share the good news of God’s salvation with someone who was walking the opposite way. It was great for the soul who was walking, but quite terrifying for the passenger in the car with him.

I think back to the time when we were at the gym in the sauna, and he began to give me the gospel only so that the others in the sauna might overhear. He passed out tracts even when he thought no one saw him, and he gave the gospel as we went out door to door. Many people came to Christ after hearing him share the gospel message. I never met anyone quite like him, and in seeing him again, I saw that he has not changed as is still proclaiming the saving truth of the gospel. He is still being faithful in the ministry God has tasked him with, and I will be forever grateful for the testimony he was to me. I Corinthians 4:2 states, “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

Are you faithful in what God has called you to do or are you thinking of throwing in the towel? Is God your motivation or do you desire a pat on the back? One day our time will come to see Jesus, and we will wish we had done more for Him. Our life is but a dash from the day we were born until the day God calls us home. I encourage you to not give up, and keep fighting the good fight. Philippians 3:14 states, “I press toward the mark (goal) for the prize of the high (upward) calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Keep pressing toward the promised goal of Heaven, and keep being faithful to a God who will never fail. Keep doing God’s good work with eternity in mind.

Stay in the fight!
