Favor From God
"Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD." Proverbs 18:22
I recently had the privilege of attending a wedding, and it is always a time of reflection for me as I ponder my own wedding. I remember our pastor at the time telling us that we would always remember our special day wherever we attended someone else's special day. The service was beautiful as we sang songs, heard a message and saw people who had poured their lives into this couple pray over them. I was touched by the ceremony, and I was excited to see my friend find a special someone that God had led him to. I was able to catch with some friends I had not seen in a long time, and I had such a great time catching up and being a part of the special celebration. The night was capped off with some tacos, beans, and rice, so it was pretty close to a perfect night.
I met a lot of people that night, and we were all there to take in this beautiful ceremony. The one thing I heard consistently was what a good man my friend was and how happy people were that he had found that special someone to compliment him on this journey. I was impressed with the testimony of my friend, and I am sure there were many prayers that were prayed by him and for him asking God to provide a spouse. When I heard of his testimony from others, I was reminder how we need to be ready for the answer to our prayer. If you desire a godly spouse, then you will need to be godly yourself. You have to be what you desire in another and most importantly, you must have a real walk with God.
The home is under attack in today's day and age, but God has instituted marriage and it is a beautiful thing to witness a Christian couple tie the knot. My heart was full after leaving the ceremony as I have come to know how beautiful marriage can be. You may hear people complain about their spouse, whether it be in the work place, at the grocery store, or even at church. Our spouse was not given us to be a burden or adversary, but God tells us that he who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor of the LORD. It is not a small thing what God has given us to complete and help us as we strive to serve Him. I praise God for the spouse He has provided for me in my life, and I am sure my friend will say amen to that.
Where are you today? Do you complain about your spouse, or do you praise God for the gift He has given you? Do you look to be an encourager and a true companion or are you an antagonist to the one you have promised to love? It is easy to say "I do" on your special day, but how about those hangry days or days when things don't go your way? How about those days when your expectations are not met? May we be thankful for the spouse God has given us, and may we never forget the favor He has shown us. A wife is good thing, and may we never despise that which God has given us.
Stay in the fight!
