God Will Provide

“By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,” Hebrews 11:17

When I was a kid, it seemed like promises took forever to come to fruition. I had little patience and I had a hard time waiting for them to come to pass. It was as if I was always asking, “Are we there yet?”

We went to Sea World in Orlando, Florida when I was growing up, and we were all excited. We had never been to Florida and we were going to visit Sea World and Disneyworld. We arrived at Sea World, and I asked my dad for a souvenir as soon as we entered the park. Souvenirs were usually luxuries, and we didn’t always get them. As a parent now, I understand that they are expensive and soon discarded. My dad told me to wait until the end of the day when we were leaving the park and he would buy me one.

It was a great day, but I was consumed with the souvenir that awaited me. I asked my dad all day about the souvenir, and he told me that he would get it for me and to just patiently wait. It was as if you put a platter of food before a dog and then told him to count to a hundred before eating the food. I knew not to nag, but I eyed all the souvenir possibilities as I exited every attraction.

The day became night, and it was getting late. We had a full day, but I had not forgotten about my souvenir. We were headed towards the exit, and I didn’t want to nag my dad, but I didn’t want to miss out on my souvenir either. Sea World had several shops to choose from before you exited, and my dad looked at me and gave me the nod to enter. I was so excited and choose a plush dolphin I named Orlando. My dad kept his promise, and I left the park with the biggest smile on my face.

Abraham was promised that his seed could not be numbered and would endure to all generations. He was given a promise he would have to wait decades for, and then he was told to sacrifice the promise. Abraham did not waiver, nor did he question God. He knew God would provide, so in obedience and by faith, he offered up his only son. He knew God was to be judged faithful and he took Him at His Word. God would ultimately provide the sacrifice of His only son, Jesus, but Abraham was proven faithful in a time of trial when he was asked to sacrifice his.

How about you friend? Do you grow impatient and refuse to trust God? Do you demand your souvenir when it is not quite time yet? Are you willing to give up what is most important to you if God asks you to give it up? What have you been tried with that you failed in? God is always faithful if we will only learn to depend on Him. God always knows best, and His plan is always perfect. God provided the sacrifice of His Son, and He is faithful to be trusted for your eternal security. I pray you accept the gift of His only Son, and that you pass the test when He gives it to you.

Stay in the fight!
