Happy New Year!
Updated: Jan 1
"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14
The past is simply that—the past. No matter how much you think or worry about it, the past will not change. Last year is in the books and the new year is directly in front of us. We can and should learn from the mistakes made in the previous year, but we cannot change the things that are in the past.
I approach every year with great hope and anticipation. I have the usual New Year's resolution such a losing weight and getting into the best shape of my life. I also have spiritual goals in which I desire to see God grow me in my spiritual life. I have goals that I write down and others that seem to be written into my DNA. I hope to learn from the mistakes I committed in the previous year, and I hope to correct and grow from them as I go forward.
I am not sure if you have any New Year resolutions, but I think it is always a good idea to have goals. Goals can be short-term or they can be long-term. Goals are what hold me accountable and are a measurement to where I stand in comparison to my goals. I can think of no better goal for the New Year than to press towards God’s mark and God’s will for your life.
This new year presents a new opportunity to make an impact for eternity. A new year that God has allowed us to see that we might be faithful in doing His work. A new year full of hopes and dreams and excitement for what God has in store for us. A new year that was not given to us by chance, but a new year God has planned for our lives. He has placed you on the earth in 2022 to fulfill His will for your life. You were created for such a time as this. A time to fulfill what God has called you to do.
If you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, then you are called to an important work. You are not called just to occupy space and time, but you are called to do the will of God. You are called to do the work of the Lord and not your own agenda. Life is lonely and unfulfilling when one only serves self. What will you allow God to do through you in 2022? Who will be impacted by your obedience and commitment to God? Learn from and make right the mistakes from the previous year, and press on towards what God has for you in the new year. Lay aside the weights which so easily beset you, and make this year count for eternity as you press towards the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Stay in the fight!
