He Is In Control
"The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever (wherever) he will." Proverbs 21:1
I went home from work due to the COVID-19 outbreak in March 2020. I was in the middle of a meeting when I was told to leave immediately. I was given orders to grab my mouse, keyboard, and my computer. I exited the building and was directed to head to the receiving dock where I would drive through and get a computer monitor that I would take home with me. I figured we would back in a month, so I did not take too much stock in the hasty exit. I didn’t even grab my favorite bobbleheads or my family pictures from my desk as I thought we would all be back in a month or two at most. I was completely wrong in my thinking, and I was in for a rude surprise. The world would be changing in a lot of ways, and in ways I would never expect.
Over two years later, I am still working from home, and I am grateful that I was not laid off and that I was able to keep my job. My wife joined me at home and she is still working from home as well. I have gone into the office to gather my belongings, and she has gone to her office a handful of times for various reasons. We have gotten used to working from home, and we have come to love it at this point. I look back at these past two-and-a-half years, and it is amazing how much the world has changed in such a short time. The world seemed to be turned upside down as violence has increased, and there is a major gap between the right and left politically which widens by the day. Some say genders cannot be determined by a doctor at birth, and there are some who feel you have a right to murder someone who does not have a voice for themselves. We went through a presidential change, which only added fuel to the fire, and we are now facing a recession that hasn’t been seen in several years.
We often put our hopes and dreams in whoever is occupying the White House, and we feel all will be well if our particular candidate makes it to the highest seat in the land. There is much angst about who occupies the White House at this present time, and there are many Christians who feel hopeless due to how quickly the world is changing and the policies our president seeks to enforce. We feel the economic pressure as gas costs have risen and food prices have followed right behind. We point fingers at our government, which may or may not be warranted, but we often forget who really is in charge. We forget who really controls this world, and we forget that God is still sovereign and rightly sits on His throne. We cast our hope as we cast our ballot, but our hope should never be in anyone or anything but Almighty God.
Do you realize that the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord? We do not live in a monarchy but, in a way, our president serves as king over the land. But even he is not able to ever go against the will of God. God did not become less sovereign, and though things seem chaotic, God is firmly in control. He has turned our nation over to a reprobate mind, and we are reaping the consequences of the wickedness we have sown. We tend to complain about our leader, and we hang our heads as those who are without hope. We neglect to pray to our God for our leader, and we neglect to get on our knees and ask God to change the hearts of those worldwide and those in our nation. God controls the heart of the king, and He is able to turn it to perform His good and perfect will.
Where are you today friend? Have you lost hope? Have you hung your head in defeat as you see no hope for our nation? Do you ask the King of Kings to change the heart of the king, or would you rather complain about our current circumstances? I am guilty, as I have complained about and not prayed as I should for our leaders and president. Will you live defeated or will you put your trust in the One who reigns supreme and sits on the throne? May we never forget who is in control, and may we live with the hope and comfort of His sovereignty.
Stay in the fight!
