His Knowledge, His Truth

“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us [qualified] to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath [conveyed] us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:” Colossians 1: 9-14 I have heard many things in my life that sounded spiritual but were not Biblical. I have heard personal choices preached as biblical truth, and I have heard people state things they believed that were just blatantly against God's Word.  I think back to all the people who have attended Freedom That Lasts and the many different paths they have taken. I think of those who have remained faithful from day one, others who have come and gone, and those who have newly joined. Everyone is on their own spiritual journey, but we are united by our need for God. When people think of an "addictions ministry", they think of what society may deem "horrible" addictions, but yet FTL offers a Bible study for all sinners. My prayer is for all of us who attend FTL is that we grow in the knowledge of God.  One of my favorite jobs at work is coaching new employee hires. My goal as a coach was to ensure that the people I was coaching were ready for their job. I would give them the knowledge I had learned, but more importantly, give them tools so they could access the information themselves. I would stay late during this coaching time and be available for those who wanted to work on their craft. I realize those who stayed late grew in knowledge and understood more than the ones who did not. The time came when the new employees graduated, and I would no longer be there to answer all of their questions.  The new employees started their jobs and at times my instant messaging was flooded with questions. I tried to refrain from simply answering all of their questions, and instead direct them to the resources that would help them be successful. I found over the next few weeks that the questions waned, and they soon started to figure out the answers that were already available to them. The questions would come once in a while for the one-off scenarios, but they soon found their answers within the resources they were given.  I think of those who come every Friday or who text throughout the week as they are faced or dealing with difficult circumstances. I could give them advice from what I think, but I strive to point them to the One who is acquainted with all knowledge, wisdom and understanding. God’s Word is unmatched and is applicable in every era and situation. My desire as I pray for those who attend FTL is to be, “filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” My heart’s desire for myself and others is that we would be fruitful and abound in our knowledge of God. The knowledge of God dispels the whispering of Satan, and exposes the lies that he uses to gain an advantage.  Friend, how is your knowledge of God? Do you desire to know more about Him? Do you read His Word? Do you pray to Him? Do you realize you will always struggle if you neglect the resources He has given you? Are you thankful for what He has delivered you from? Do you seek to walk in a way that would be pleasing to Him? May you desire to know Him more everyday and may your relationship with Him grow sweeter. May we pray for one another and may we be fruitful in the good works He has called us to.  Stay in the fight!
