“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
In our current society, we are bombarded with all kinds of news from every source and every angle. We get one perspective and someone will argue another. I used to read the paper religiously and there was hardly a day I missed. I remember my dad got the afternoon paper delivered, and I suppose I picked up that habit from him. I recently quit subscribing to the newspaper as I began to realize that it read more like an editorial than it did an actual newspaper. It seemed there was less facts and more opinions, and the opinions that were given did not line up with God’s Word.
I remember as a youth having a bad attitude about everything, and I know it was because of what I was reading and listening to. I found artists who supported my viewpoints, and I adopted their viewpoints as well. I did not draw closer to God and my Bible sat on the shelf collecting dust. I filed my mind with the “wisdom” and “knowledge” of this world, and I did not realize how far I had strayed. I kept filling my mind with garbage, and I could not understand why everyone did not think like me. I asked the opinion of fools, and I ignored the knowledge found in God’s Word.
I have seen some who get the latest alerts on their phone from breaking news stories, but do not take the time to crack open God’s Word. They often are filled with worry, anxiety and anger as they view the troubles of the world from the world’s perspective. When we fill our mind with worldliness, we will act out like the world. We will begin to think like the world, and we will stray from the truth of God’s Word.
What is the remedy against this type of thinking and living? We must remove the lies from our lives, and we need to change our spiritual oil. We must drain ourselves of the world’s dirty “oil”, and replace it with the truth of God’s Word. Time spent reading, memorizing, and meditating on God’s Word will change the way we think, which will change the way we live. There is no renewing of the mind without God, just as you cannot renew your body by being a frequent flyer in the fast food drive thru.
Where are you today Christian? Are you bogged down with the fears, cares and anxieties that this world preaches? Do you find yourself hopeless and angry by what you read and watch on the news? Do you pass up your Bible reading in order to get the latest breaking news? Is your soul noisy with the cares of this world or is it filled with the comforting truth from God’s Word? John 14:27 states, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.“ Are you renewing your mind? Are you filled with the peace that God provides? Are you living for God? Do you know His will for your life? May we not put our faith in a fallen world, but may we rest in the peace that only God can give.
Stay in the fight!
