“Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.” - I Timothy 5:24-25
I remember as a kid going up into my tree house and it gave me a great view of the neighbor’s houses. I saw across the alley a house with a pool and the water sparkled from my vantage point. I wanted to see how a rock would look if I threw it over into the pool. I threw a rock and it splashed, much to my glee, so I threw several more. I thought nothing of it, but one day someone was out in the pool disturbing my time of serenity. I threw the rock anyway and the swimmer in the pool jumped with fear. She looked around and I quickly ducked into my clubhouse. Days went by and we played a game of cat and mouse until one day she caught me and pointed me out. I ran down the clubhouse and tried to play it off. I looked out my window and the girl came walking down the block towards my house.
She knocked on the door and told my dad all that I had been doing. I tried to lie about my part in the whole fiasco but my parents were not buying it, and I got my britches worn out. My fun of throwing rocks was over and my secret was discovered. All the games of cat and mouse were over, and I dared not even look that way as I climbed into my clubhouse. My clubhouse had a healthy dose of rocks which I had to return to their natural habitat. I soon began to learn that my secrets would always be revealed as God brought to light the sins that I thought I had hid.
We can all attest to times in our life when we thought our sins were secret but they were brought out to the light. We have also seen great men and women succumb to sin and cause great reproach to the name of God. We know that God will bring these things to light, and we must be careful to not bring reproach to the name of God.
On the other hand, we can do things for God that others cannot help but notice as it brings honor and glory to our Lord and Savior. We can make an impact like none other if we allow God to work in our life. We have a decision to make whether we will bring honor or whether we will bring reproach.
Where do you find yourself today? Are you the one throwing rocks into the pool, trying to hide in the inner walls of the clubhouse? Are you one who makes a positive difference wherever you go? Will you be a corrupt spring or will you bring honor and glory to God Almighty? May what comes to light be pleasing to God and may we not be caught throwing rocks into the pool.
Stay in the fight!
