The Fulness of Time
"But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father." Galatians 4:4-6
I remember hearing when I was a kid that Jesus was coming in the year 1980, 1988 and even in the year 2000. I would look at the sky as a young child and would wonder if that day would be the day when He would come back for us. I could almost hear the trumpet but yet I would look at the sky and walk away as I remained here on this earth looking at the sky. I watched rapture movies and wonder if I would be catching a glimpse of cars and planes crashing into each other as I departed this earth. I am still around on this earth, so I can attest that the rapture has not taken place as some have predicated. I know the day will come, and I hope it is during the course of my lifetime as I do not look forward to how my day will come as I leave this earth. Matthew 24:36 states, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only."
We do not know when Jesus was born, but we celebrate His birth in December as we celebrate the most influential person to be born in this world. I think of the Jews who looked to the coming of the Messiah and some who are still looking for His coming thousands of years after He has already come. I am sure some looked for His coming like we do now, and I read in His Word how some rejoiced at His coming. He was brought gifts and a star shone on shepherds to show them the way to the Messiah. There were some who died before His coming but yet they held the hope of His coming. They believed that He would come, and there was a great hope that He would come again. We think in the same way as we look toward His second coming as He promised He would return again. Hebrews 9:28 states, " "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation."
The fulness of time will come for the second time just as it did the first time. There will be some who will look past and will miss it and there will be believers such as me who will meet Him in the clouds. It seems things are lining up for His coming as we see the world wax worse and worse just as He said and the signs seem to be there as well. Our job is to look for His coming and work as if His coming is imminent which it is. We are to be prepared and telling others of His coming as it will be the happiest day for some and one of the worse for others. We will no longer be waiting for the fulness of time as it will come at a day when we least expect it.
As we enter into this Christmas season, may we look for the fulness of time and live as God would have us to live. May we rejoice that we have the adoption of sons, and we have a Heavenly Father who is coming again. A heavenly Father who has not left us alone on this earth to figure out life, but one in which we come bold to His throne and cry, "Abba, Father!" A term of endearment that implies a special relationship that cannot be compared to, and a relationship that will last for all eternity.
Are you ready for the fulness of time? Do you share that special relationship with the Father? Do you long for His second coming? Do you rejoice and remember the significance of His first coming? Have you taken of His free gift? Have you tasted of His redemption salvation or are you not ready for the fulness of time? Christmas is a time of giving but it is symbolic of the greatest gift that was given to all mankind. A gift that does not break and the only gift guaranteed for all eternity. Will you accept His free gift today? If you have accepted His free gift, will you praise Him by proclaiming, "Abba, Father!" May we look to His second coming, and may we be ready when the fulness of time comes.
Stay in the fight!
