“And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” I John 2:3-4
We live in a world where it is hard to hide. There are cameras everywhere you go and some even have them in their homes. I was recently walking by my neighbor’s house and saw two cameras I had not noticed before. One was pointed at the front driveway and the other one was pointed at our cul de sac.
I spoke to our neighbor recently and he said he could see us on his cameras when we went out on walks and when we returned. We have been taking late night walks to get out of the house and get some exercise, but did not know we were being watched. My neighbor also stated he could hear us talking through the camera microphones. He quickly clarified he did not listen in to our banter, but is just alerted every time there is movement outside his house. I thought to myself, "I can’t go anywhere without being discovered".
I have often failed to realize that God has been the eye in the sky since the beginning of time. He sees all things and does not need to be alerted when there is action because He knows all things. It is often said that true character is revealed how you act when no one else is watching. We forget that we are ever before God, and He sees and knows all things. He knows our true character, and He truly knows the depths of our heart. He knows if we truly know Him or not, and He knows the truth about our walk with Him.
We often like to speak in a spiritual manner, but if we don’t keep His commandments, our words are just hot air. Peter proclaimed his loyalty to Jesus, but his heart was revealed by his actions. Matthew 26:75 states, “And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.” Peter is often criticized, but we often act the same way. We speak a spiritual game but we fail in keeping God's commandments. The truth about our walk is revealed by our actions - not by the words we speak.
How are you in keeping God's commandments? Does your obedience reveal a real walk with God or does your disobedience reveal the truth of your heart? Are you a bit like Peter yourself? Do you say (or think), "I would never do such a thing", but yet find yourself disobeying God's commandments? Do you truly know Him? Are you walking in truth or is the truth not in you? May we be real about our walk with Him and may we be found keeping His commandments.
Stay in the fight!
